Hey guys and gals - I, like you, LOVE my Corvette but I do have my gripes with it (ESPECIALLY the interior).
We've all had the complaints about the seats and the plastic interior - but above all else (for me) is the ugly as sin auto shifter. Simple solution: buy a manual. Would Love to but my wife drives it too and refuses to learn stick (plus the paddle shifters have grown on me).
Recently I drove a Gallardo with paddle shiftersshifters and noticed the park, reverse and drive buttons were all buttons. It looked slick, functioned and felt like it should.
I was wondering: has anyone done this with their vette? Maybe used one of these: https://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/Performance_Aftermarket/Products/Electronic_Shifters/Push_Button_Shifter/ ?
I'm going to save up and try it - when I do ill put together a how to and experience video.
I can agree a "giant" console shift lever and paddle shifters can be redundant.
Sounds like a great project, although not inexpensive.
Just thinking out loud, what about a modified Shift Lever? The Ferrari 360 reverse lever comes to mind. Then there's the C6 manual parking brake lever to consider.
My grandfathers Chrysler Imperial had the push button automatic but it was with cables like the old heater controls as HOXXOH said, when those cables rusted up they got inoperable. Modern fully electronically controlled transmissions can use any kind of input scheme. My 4WD RAM truck has buttons for the transfer case and a **** for the transmission.
