A4 Shift Cable Install Question
Replacing the trans shift cable on my 2005. Exhaust and tunnel plate have been removed. Looking for tips / tricks to reconnect the shift cable to the tunnel bracket at the shifter end. Not a lot of room in this area. Had trouble disconnecting the cable from the tunnel bracket and do not want to damage the new shift cable. Also, are the reinforced and insulated tunnel plates worth the money. Seems that reducing the heat from the exhaust would reduce the chance for a shift cable bushing failure. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Even though I removed the tunnel plate and exhaust, I found it easier to seat the top part of the new cable by reaching in the opening where the center console was. It will click into place.
