Have you guys ever experienced any issue with ignition coils going out (92k miles 05 LS2)? I noticed a few weeks ago that my car really started to run terrible once warmed up and very intermittently. The problem seemed to get worse so I went ahead and ordered plugs and wires since I hadn't done them since I've had the car so who knows how long they've been in there. Changed them out and glad I did the plugs looked pretty cruddy. Went out for a test drive assuming everything was fine since the plugs looked bad and to my dismay the car started missing again. The misses before and after the tune up were severe enough to cause the CEL to flash. The thing that really bothered me though, was how intermittent it was. I limped the car home and on the way home seemed to clear up. I broke out the good ol' scanner and read a P0305. Cylinder 5 misfire. I inspected and reinstalled my wiring/plug job and thought maybe the wire wasn't seated correctly to the plug. Out for another test drive, I again got the P0305. Came home let it cool down and swapped number #3 and #5 coils. Took the car out and that seemed to clear things up, for now. I brought it home thinking wtf but whatever then it started missing again in the garage at idle throwing another flashing CEL. This time it was P0303. So my miss has seemed to follow the coil pack. I've went ahead and ordered a ACDELCO DC510C coil pack and now I wait on rockauto to bring it. Any similar experiences??
Not on my Corvette but I've had a coil pack go bad on my previous car at about 30k. Did the same thing as you, moved the coil pack and the code followed it. Seemed to happen mostly during high-load situations but just driving normal I wouldn't experience the issue.
Although I haven't seen this being much of an issue with Corvettes it isn't too surprising and I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless it keeps happening.
At 13 years & 90K+ miles I would have swapped all of
Them for some coils from Lance @ Pantera EFI.
They allow for more Dwell, Hotter Spark, and
Bigger Spark Plug Gaps along with less ign advance.
