Default base axles

it seems that the C5 axles are the hot ticket for an axle upgrade. I recently bought a used set to put in my base C6. when I pulled the axle out of my car and laid it next to the C5 axle I discovered that they are extremely similar. The inner CV joint is identical, same numbers and everything. The outer CV joint is very similar, the only difference I can see is that the taper is a little different. There are 2 numbers on them, one is the same, the other is different. The biggest difference I can see is that the actual shaft is bigger on the C6 axle. So what makes the C5 axle stronger? Is it actually stronger? Thanks

No personal experience but here's a discussion with best info I've seen. Also check the discussion I linked in my post #2:

the C5 is a 5 bearing axle versus 3 bearing on the early C6's and they are stronger.C6 axle was upgraded starting in 09 I believe

Mine is a very early 09. Was the upgrade to basically make them like C5 axles? Are the new style just as strong as C5 axles? Does anyone have a pic of pre 09 base axles? Thanks

After doing a bunch of research and eventually looking at my buddy's C5, I concluded that the axles that were sold to me as C5 axles are actually from a 2005. But I'm still curious if the 2009's actually got an upgrade, and if so what's the difference and how can you tell.

From my readings most people agree that C5 axles are stronger and an upgrade for 05-07/08 Base C6/C6Z cars.

Beginning in 09 C6Z axles were beefed up and are stronger than C5 axles. I'm not sure if the same can be said about base 09+ Axles.
