Flowmaster and X Pipe. how to get low RPM drone out ?
I read about the Flowmaster drone , but I did not believe it since I had it on my SS Camaro with no drone.
But now , with the same setup, it drones at cruising speed in my 07 C6. It does sound great otherwise.
How do I get the drone out ? Other than replacing the catbacks of course..... I am in it already.

Not sure to be honest. The muffler shop put that in and made the x pipe.
it wasn't a system you buy specifically for a C6.
I will look at the receipt when I get home.
they welded the mufflers in place of the stocks and cut out the H pipe part and made an X pipe from scratch.
$500 for the whole job.

Given your tenure and the nice car in your avatar, replace the system.
1. Flowmasters are trash. They drone as you know, have very poor flow, sound like you have 150hp, and rust. You're not going to defeat the Flowmaster drone, even with expensive and labor-intensive insulation.
2. Any muffler shop system is likely going to be aluminized without mandrel bends (rust/poor flow).
3. Buy a Corsa system. It sounds like you may need to replace the mid section as well as the axle-backs. You'll eliminate the drone, regain the lost power, dramatically improve sound quality, increase the sound level behind the car, and have a very durable stainless steel/mandrel-bent system.

I am going to have to agree with lrobe22. You made the wrong choice by going with Flowmaster if you were concerned about drone. If you are insisting on keeping the Flowmaster, you could install some resonators to see if that gets the drone under control.

is drone sound the product of certain baffles ? I was looking at the SLP system and its straight thru, do you think it would drone? It sounds great on the 4.6 Mustang.

I know the LM 2 is supposed to be much louder than the regular LM, also I am not sure I could recognize drone or not if i heard it. I had Magnapacks dumped on a 4.6 Ford and Cat-less X Pipe w/ Flowmaster 40s on a different 4.6 Ford.
not trying to hi jack this thread, but also curious about Drone like OP is.

youre right! i was backwards. Well after looking online some more I feel like drone wont be a bad issue for me considering the car is going to be under 2k RPMS while cruising, and also I listen to my radio really loud. If the 40 flows with O/R X pipe didnt bother me, just an SLP axel back souldnt bother me.

I just did THIS over the weekend with some ebay cutouts and it sounds and works great. I'll grab some pictures of it painted black later today. Looks no worse than the ugly NPP exhaust vacuum actuators and does the same thing.
Sounds good when you open it up and goes right back to sounding like a Camry when you shut them. Best of all you don't even need to put a jack under the car.

Just about any aftermarket muffler will drone, stocks with cutouts isnt a bad idea. Powerwise cant really tell between mufflers, choose for the sound you like it will run about the same.
Some guys try and make termination boxes or a "J"thats supposed to cancel that out but experimenting if you cant weld can add up.

It's either I have gotten used to it, or some carbon buildup have diminished the drone. It's tolerable now.
