Default Air intake question

I have a K&N CAI on my 09 vette and was wondering if anyone had removed (put holes in?) any of the plastic valley that the intakes filter fits into. I'm thinking maybe that would get cooler air to the filter as I can't really see how ,as it sits, the filter is drawing any significantly cooler air from under the hood. Is this wise or would doing so cause a problem? I don't want to go to another CAI set up, just trying to get cooler air to what I already have. Appreciate any suggestions.

are you talking about the shroud below the intake? many have done the propped shroud mod with some toggle bolts for 5$. when i had a stock intake with kn drop in it helped lower temps. i switched to the halltech and could no longer keep the shroud propped because it caused a lot of surging on the freeway

Yes the shroud. What is the propped shroud mod? Sounds like what I'm thinking about.
Edit. Found a thread talking about the propped shroud. Possible surging. Guess I'll just leave things alone. As of now air intake must pull air from behind. Up over the radiator between the intake and the hood I guess. Hmmm. Maybe just put some holes in the shroud on each side of the filter?

looking at it looks like the guy that made this thread had the kn intake so it may work well with it. my halltech moves the MAF so that maybe the cause of my surging with propped shroud and intake

I'm thinking about trying this propped shroud mod as I just got a K&N drop in filter.

Has anyone had any trouble with the toggle bolts getting dislodged and falling out while driving?

Is there any alternative anyone has tried with drilling or cutting the shroud itself?

for me i had no trouble with this the two butterflies helped plenty. up to high speeds.
i personally would shy away from cutting the shroud i have thought about drilling small holes ( on the sides) to allow some outside air in but i would be cautious because of how touchy the MAF can be

some have installed this but it might be a bit more money compared to 5$ toggle bolt install

Interesting, like a scoop, only upside down.
