Default C6Z Intermittant Problem

Hi All
I had this strange intermittent problem (has happened 3x so far) The first time I was driving the car on a very hot day on a road with traffic lights every 3-5 miles where I would run the car up to 70 or 80 between lights and then repeat.

After a half hour of the above, I stopped at a store and 10 minutes later when I went to restart the car tried to start and then quit and tried to start then quit. It finally started but was popping and sputtering. I carefully drove it home, noticing oil pressure and temps were fine, charging good but that there was no tach reading during the drive. Once home I checked under hood for anything out of place but all looked normal. Left it sit overnight the next day it tool several tries to start but once running ran normal.

I have had a couple of subsequent hard start cases but without the bad popping and sputtering or loss of tach signal.

Any thoughts?

Crank or Cam position sensor? Had that happen in one of my trucks which caused similar issues.

Hi !!
YES, hard starting issues like that can very well be a crank sensor...one of the things to look for if you have a cranking no start is tach movement while trying to start the car...hope this helps !!

Thanks for your input. Can you comment on what level of project this is to change the crank sensor? Is is fairly straight forward process or Should you have specific corvette repair experience to tackle this project? I do most of my own maintenance on quite a few different cars and trucks and have a fairly well equipped home garage.

Basically the starter has to be removed...crank sensor sits behind it...great that you do your own maintenance. I have an oscilloscope so I’d be able to check the signal coming out of the sensor...I never change a part like this unless I check the wiring...I’ve seen way to many people change parts a few times when all it was is some defective wiring !!...good luck and use an OEM sensor if you do change it !!...aftermarket just aren’t good enough !!
