A couple of things about this.
1. When I 1st start the car, whether cold or hot, it barely makes any noise starting up. It revs at around 900 but doesn't get the attention I thought it would. I have a 2007 base, m6 with the ms4 cam, 1 7/8 long tubes and corsa exhaust. Of course it was tuned.
2. The temperature has gotten colder of course. The car doesn't sound as loud as it did in the summer.
Should I be concerned about any of this? It's only a weekend driver. Only put 1000 miles on it if that since the cam was installed.
Slow the idle down to 750rpm or even less. Let the lope begin. If it doesn't lope, chop, and shake at a lower idle RPM, you don't have the cam you think you have.
I purchased it after I bought the car. Sounds weird but I went to the long tube headers and it sounded quieter after the install. The corsa exhaust was already on when I bought it. I then saved up for the cam. Only once when I cold started it the car turned on loud. Every other time I turn it on, it barely seems to turn on. Very quiet on start up and then gets a little louder. Now whether warmed up or cold, the car sounds quieter than the day I had the cam installed. I was told the injectors (which are stock) are not maxed out.
Your tuner may didn't tune it for you to hear the sound. But like the others said that's a pretty good size cam. When you had the cam installed and tuned after you got it back did you butt dyno feel the new power you were supposed to had? I agree with motorhead said also that should bring the lope out.
The butt tuner definitely feels the difference. The car has 467 to the wheels. My wife thinks it's too loud but I know, 100% sure, the car has gotten quieter.
Once you drive it & it's warm, does the sound change? If so, then probably the packing or baffles in muffler/s or cats expanding/contracting with the temp...
I wait until the car warms up before I drive it. Texas weather changes in a blink of an eye. I turned the air conditioner on and the rpms move just a touch higher but the lope sounds better. I turned the air conditioner off and the lope almost disappears. Tried it again and hear the same thing. My car sounds better when the air conditioner is running. Rpms barely differ whether air is on or off but the sound is way different.
Just a FYI, it’s much better on the engine itself to not rev up high on a cold start. the less it revs, the less the motor is running before oil psi builds up which in turn is much better on the engine. A MS4 in a LS2 will def have ALOT of chop. I normally have to idle that cam around 900 and shakes the whole car
