Default Brake fluid

I painted the calipers on my car, well, off my car and put them back on. It’s a 2008 C6, manual trans LT3. I figure while bleeding the brake system, this is a good time for a flush. I know the cap says DOT 3 but is that what’s best for my car? I’ve been in the auto service industry for all of my adult life and to my understanding, DOT 4 replaced or superceded DOT 3. I know DOT 5 is something different, I think synthetic. Is there any reason to stick with DOT 3 over DOT 4 that I’m missing here? Wouldn’t the newer version be better? Any thoughts on this will be appreciated.

Dot 4 has higher dry and wet boiling points, so it's better for track or spirited driving, but you should flush it every 2 years or so. Dot 3 doesn't absorb water as quickly so it's fine for normal driving and if you don't plan on flushing the fluid often it's better than 4.

For street use only, I would stick with DOT 3.
