The early short one was routed in a way that caused it to fail. Don't know the reason. If you buy a replacement they are all the long ones, at least they were when I went to buy one, that was the driver behind me making one.
I believe I know what you mean, it'd be nice if their was a "clutch" so to speak in the pump to limit pressure and possibly redure heat. Granted, that could be a safety problem.

Turn one also has a rebuild option starting at $150. With the winter, the couple week lead time might not be so bad.

I also had a blown pressure hose and what everyone is saying is correct, the new one has to be routed different basically in front of what they call the power steering cooling lines then to the steering rack......again I ordered it from O'reilly's. My original one blew right by the crimped tubing to hyd hose just down from the pump. It would not blow fluid under normal operation but would spray when the wheels were turned all the way left or right. I would say while your there you may as well replace it to.....your definitely going to need a set of metric crows feet with extensions!!

Thanks for the reponces guys.

Does anyone know where a good how to video/thread is for changing the pump is? I'll have it rebuilt by turn one if I can figure out how much effort I have to put into replacing it.

In December I had to replace the Harmonic Damper/Balancer on my '06 Vert. Obviously this necessitated removing the steering rack to get to the HB. The job went well and it's all back together and on the road again. I did have to remove the power steering pump, the hoses from the pump to the rack and cooler, the fluid reservoir, alternator, etc. Since reassembly, I noticed about 1/2" to 3/4" of "free play" in the steering wheel at the neutral/straight ahead position when I had none before working on the car. After reassembling everything, while the car was still up on the jack stands, with the engine idling, I turned the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock, ostensibly working the air out of the system and keeping the fluid reservoir up. I did this at least 12-15 times. Yet the free play in the steering persists. And yes, I torqued the rack mounting bolts, tie rod ends, and torqued the pinch bolt on the steering column connection to the steering actuator on the rack. Is it possible I have not purged all the air out? Why would there be free play now when there was none before I disassembled the system? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

Tighten the bolt that holds the steering shaft to the rack.

Ended up ordering the turn one pump March 18. The lead time says 7-10 business days but it still hasn't shipped. Going to contact them about it.

I still haven't found a video or really good document that makes me feel really confident in changing it myself though. My problem is I only have a basic socket and wrench set, not much to get in very small places or odd angles.
