Hey guys, I have a LS2 Corvette and it is making a whining noise. It is a high pitched whine and seems to be louder when I turn the wheel. The steering rack has been replaced (was leaking anyway) and the noise did not go away.so I assume it is the pump (correct me if you think it could be something else).
First, are you guys pretty sure it is the pump as well?
Second, do you guys recommend getting the OEM pump? The dealership is saying over $850 for the OEM pump but can get one from ACDelco for around $450. Online I can get one for $190 on corvette central, $170 on corvette mods, or $100 (ACDelco) on rockauto, or a $50 Cardone on of summit racing (that price seems sketchy). I'm not sure if their are ones to stay away from or aftermarket ones that are cheaper and every bit as good. I would appreciate the help on this one.

See if your pulley is backing off the snout on the pump. One guy had that issue. If it is, maybe have someone reseat it for you. But, it's possible it will happen again down the road.

I would have expected that to cause more of a belt squeaking sound, but maybe not. Is there a good way of checking it?
Thanks for the input, I'll keep that in mind! And I figured I would never get mechanical bits from Corvette mods, only stuff that doesn't matter. they have too much bad hype.
Does anyone know about the ACDelco pump on rockauto? If it works well, it'd be nearly impossible to beat at $100. It is refurbished, but I'd figure it's new blades, bearing, and paint.

Send it you dont have alot to lose the pumps are more annoying then difficult replace.
I just replaced mine with a Cardone Power Steering Pump from Advanced Auto Parts - lifetime replacement. So far no issues, works perfectly without any issues.
It's rebuilt but I did some research just like you are doing and found others that have had good success with Cardone, no reason to speed hundreds if you don't need to IMO.

Good Luck
Do do you know what model you got? There is one they make on summit racing for $50 and ones on RockAuto (the a1 model) for $150.
My problemn robis I'm not sure if there is any real difference between them or even the $100 ACDelco one on RockAuto. I would think anything made by AC Delco should meet to the OEM specs but the price difference is outrageous.

It was this one, Advanced has a lot of discounts like 20% off and I used that and got it cheaper. Ordered it online and a day or so it was at my local store ready to be picked up.
Like you said, almost all of the ones are sold are reconditioned with new bearings, seals and blades. I think most are the same unless you want to spend $400+ for a brand new one from the stealer which is crazy............ I think most have the Vette tax tagged on.... the easy part is buying it, getting the old one off and replaced is a complete BIATCH!!!
Does anyone know how the turn one pump actually compairs to the stock pump? They claim 3hp and lower temps, but is their any testing to go along with it? And how would a pump inprove the steering feel?

I'm thinking end of year bonus check
The Turn 1 pump gives you more road feel. It flows less than the stock pump, so it takes more effort to turn the wheel, but it is worth it. I also bought the fittings so that I could replace the high pressure line with steel braided Teflon hose.
The reason the fluid runs cooler is because it produces less pressure. I would buy again. Also, if you have the short pressure line, either make a new one like I did, or buy the replacement one that is about twice as long.

That makes sense. So why is it beneficial to have less pressure? Anything apart from the feel?
Why would I need one so long, is the pressure line just that short?

Not sure I know the answer to your pressure question, but I my bet is that it produces far more pressure at higher RPM than is needed, so if you do track day, you are driving the car at higher RPM, creating more pressure and that pressure translates to heat. Just my opinion based on logic.
The early short one was routed in a way that caused it to fail. Don't know the reason. If you buy a replacement they are all the long ones, at least they were when I went to buy one, that was the driver behind me making one.
