Default HVAC controller

12k miles on the Z and the HVAC controller sometimes does not light up. After 15 mins of driving it will come to life. The other day it was fine from the get go maybe because it was a warmer day? I see a lot of people having the same issues and was wondering is there a fix for this as it would seem like it is an electrical problem on the circuit. Or are people just replacing them and that is it?

Who sells new ones? Buying a second hand one might just get you a couple months out of it and back to square one.

We were just informed this summer that GM no longer services that unit "new".

Member Dano523 says if you're handy with electronics, you can take your defective HVAC unit apart, find the offending solder point and re-solder it. That is beyond most of us though.

See post #1 here for link to rebuilt supplier. The final cost if you send back your unit as a core is $250:

Thanks for the info. I will be pulling mine out and as you say the problem will most likely be a cold solder joint.

Will see if I can fix mine, if not have to order a new one from the link you posted.
