Default Complete Stereo System Replacement - 05 C6

I'm planning a complete stereo system replacement in my 2005 C6.

New head unit, amplifier, speakers, XM receiver, etc.

The receiver is one of the new smart ones that supports Apple and Android connectivity.

I'll use my phone's Google maps for directions.

Do I need an interface to the car's ECM/electronics for any reason? Assuming the car has OnStar, that can go away as I will never use it.

Comments please...

Reference to other postings that have gone into this issue would also be appreciated.

I called Crutchfeild and they sent me the unit wired to plug into the car. It did have a "converter" box, for lack of a better term. My does all that stuff you mentioned plus NAV.

There's some sort of wiring for the system. I bought my gear from Crutchfield and it had all the parts needed. The system dings/chimes etc. run through the stereo so you'd lose audible warnings if you don't take care of that. I don't remember what the device was. Probably a small interface box of some sort.

On edit: this pic of all the parts I used has a little box to the side and is probably the interface for the system chimes. I can check my paperwork when I get home if you need more info.

For an extra $25, Crutchfeild will send it to you ready to go, best $25 I ever spent. I also did an old mustang I have, same deal, arrived and I plugged it in.
