Last year I installed a Vararam SC1 cold air intake on the LS7 motor in my 427 vert. Soon my biannual smog check will come due and I plan on removing the new intake and replacing with stock before getting smogged. My question is how far in advance (either days or miles) do I need to do this so the computers don't see my old setup? And, has anyone in CA tried to get an LS7 with cold air intake (or other mod) through a smog check? Thanks.
They will plug into the OBDII port and run their program. It needs to see long and short term trim settings and NO current or pending codes. You would fail the visual inspection unless the CAI has a CARB sticker on it.
I just put my stock air intake on it a week or so and drive it on the freeway for 20-30 minutes.

Since, my long term fuel trims are disabled and have passed CA emissions inspections several times, I do not think fuel trims are a concern. However, if your Long term fuel trims are reporting + or - 25% a DTC code will be triggered. This would indicate a lean or rich condition and you could fail. The OBDll port is used to monitor readiness codes and DTC's.
To the OP: Assuming you have the oem tune and were not throwing codes with the aftermarket CAI, you should be fine after the swap to the oem air intake. Fuel trims relearn with about 50-100 miles of driving.
