Default Is this cam too big?

I've had this n/a cam for over a year now specd out for a different car. Decide to go a different route so now i still have it.

Is it too big for my gs? Will i have ptv issues?

Car is 12 GS manual.

239*/250* .647"/.595" 112*+3*
Too Big????? 20* Overlap!! Yes! (IMO)
PTV issues? maybe, won't know for sure without measuring. I would bet yes.
(aftermarket 11* or 12* valve angles would certainly help)
What are the goals for your car?

That cam would barely make enough idle vacuum to operate the brake booster.

Why would you want that much cam for a daily driver? ... or is this a dedicated race car?

That cam actually has a overlap of +20.5 degrees (that's + degrees)

Just for comparison, your stock LS3 cam has an overlap of -26.0 degrees (that's - degrees) (BIG difference)

Stock LS3 specs:

Dur: . . . . . .204° / 211°

Lift: . . . .. . .551” / .525”

LSA: . . . . . .117° (- 3°)

Overlap: . .- 26°

If a cam swap were cheap/easy, I'd say run and see how you like it. I wouldn't, but you may like the lope, buck, shake, surge, and really crappy fuel eco that you're going to get with a cam like that. Dealing with that cam, in anything other than a ***** out race type situation, is a really good way to end up hating your Vette. You'll probably need to twist your engine north of 7000 rpm to really see any advantage to it. Maxed out aftermarket heads, expensive valve train, and expensive intake manifold are probably needed too.

I'd sell it on the forum. Track rats are sometimes looking for something similar. Get one of the cam gurus to spec you something that fits what you're trying to do. A cam swap is expensive to get done if you hire the work out. Time consuming if you do it yourself. Do it once and get it right.

Putting a big cam like that in basically a stock LS3 is akin to:

Some kid back in the 60s has a 8:1 CR / 2 barrel carb / stock headed / stock cam / single exhaust / 190 HP - 283 small block Chevy ... He tears off the little Rochester 2 barrel carb and installs a 4 barrel intake manifold and a massive 780 CFM Holley double pumper carb ... and then wonders why the engine runs like crap after he goes out and test dives it.

Just my opinion ...

Had a 20* overlap cam in a heads, intake, headers LS2. It required a massive tuning effort for the street. Idled at 1050. Was a head turner when I started it but not practical for the street.

Nice cam for a 427-454 too big for a 376. Probably take 10 degrees off intake and exhaust and would still be a big cam for the 376. Call up some of the cam guys that advertise here and get them to spec you a cam for what you got.

That cam will work just fine on the street and everywhere with 13-13.5 to one compression and good heads with tons of low end torque it will require e85 though and no vacuum problems. Take a look at vids in link below.

For an LS3, yes, it is too big (that's what she said).

Define your intended use/goals for your car, then pick an appropriate cam.

But if trying to decide between two different cams, go with the smaller one.

I'll only say that I wouldn't run it in any LS3 unless it was a stroker with 11.3:1 to 11.6:1 compression.

But hell....that's just me.
