Have any of you guys installed the Dorman intake as opposed to the msd or fast and have power gain information? I’m just weighing out my options and rock auto has these intakes for $300. Sure sounds better than the hefty fast price tag. I’ll be placing it on a cam/header LS2 m6.
That's pretty interesting ... I had no idea that Dorman even made an intake manifold for an LS2.
Looks a lot like the stock manifold.
Is this manifold supposed to flow any better than the OEM piece? ... My guess is that it is an exact replacement and will flow the same as your OEM LS2 manifold.
I do know the LS3 intake manifold flows much better than the LS2 manifold, but you would also need a set of LS3 heads since the LS2 has different ports than the LS3.
You can buy a new GM / LS3 manifold from Summit for $216 (P/N: 12686561) .... Then get a set of used LS3 heads (the LS3 heads also flow better than the LS2 heads).
From my initial investigations, apparently dorman took several elements of the FAST intake during design and just made a much better flowing intake for the LS2. I was just curious if anyone here has used it and what sort of results it's yielded. Maybe I'll have to be the guinea pig.
Problem on the OEM LS2 intake, is the way that the three pieces where sonic welded to cause problem.
As stated, the LS3 is sonic welded a lot better, so if the Dorman is following the LS3 type sonic welding, may be slightly better than a LS2 intake.
As for is it going to pick up as much as a Fast in the meat of the power band and top end on a LS2, someone will need to buy and test it to tell for sure.
If it does match a fast power output, and will use all stock LS2 parts, its a hell of a deal at only $400.
From what I can see of the runners, its not going to pick up near the power of the fast without porting instead.
If you PM me I will give you my phone call to call and I can explain my installation of the doorman LS2 on my corvette. Made 20 HP over my stock ported intake. Be glad to help you out.
I have around 19 sheets from the Dyno that I have done so I have to look at them which is which. I have done all the work myself in the installation. If you want to PM me for the phone number we can talk and I can explain better. My car has 418 horsepower for my 2005 Corvette with no headers and only bolt on.
