New here, I will preface by saying This is my first LS motor experience. 08 Vette, 80k miles bought two years ago, DAILY DRIVER. I just completed a cam swap to BTR stage 1 cam 221/228 .609/.571 112 with Johnson 2110 lifters, Henson C5R chain, new GM sprockets, BTR .660” springs and ATI balancer. I first cranked in flood mode so I could get oil primed. Then started and ran stationary. Tripped a cam position sensor code. I double checked harness was plugged in to sensor. I realize I will need tune, but question is computer confused by cam? Or should I start trouble shooting cam position sensor? Also, initially had good oil pressure but when hot it dropped to 11psi at idle so I shut it down. I am going to drop oil pan tonight to check pickup O-ring. (I do have a lift thankfully) Thanks for any advice you might have experience with!
PS My tune will come from Chuck Cow that I purchased months ago...... I am trying to be very patient ... for at least some communication.😂😂😂
Make sure both ends of cam sensor harness are properly seated and a crank relearn procedure should be done when cam is replaced. With the 112 LSA of that cam it will run like crap without a tune in an auto car
From what I understand there is a single bolt sprocket and a 3 bolt sprocket.
i used the OEM 3 bolt sprocket. They should be identical except for the cam bolt pattern.
I just learned something new, that may be my issue. I will have to check P/n of the one I used against the one I pulled out.
school of hard knocks. Thank you!
I believe you need the first one. But not sure. It’s not really a big deal if you have to get in there to fix the oil o ring anyway. Good luck.
In doing a BTR stage two over the winter.
Yes, you are correct. I verified I put on the 1x reluctor and should have 4x. Have one on order and should have in a couple days. I guess I will tear it down tonight. This is my daily driver, so ready to be back in it! Thank you!
BTW, for your cam change this winter, I was able to remove radiator without disconnecting condenser lines. As you probably already know, the bottom ac line prevents condenser from sliding out of the condenser clip on plastic radiator tank. (At least on my 08) With small cutting wheel on dremal, I narrowed width of the clip on the inside allowing condenser to shift enough to clear the ac line and slide out of clip, then just carefully rotated condenser up to slide out cam under condenser.
Ok, after changing cam sprocket with correct reluctor and O ring in pickup tube, my oil
pressure is now back to normal. O ring was not pinched but too small. I learned LS motors have different size O rings on pickup tubes. Only thing left to do before I drive is crank position relearn. I ordered scan tool that can do it. Should be here Monday!
Does anyone have any recommendations how to get a response from Chuck Cow? He will not return calls or e-mail. I paid him 3 months ago for tune. After I got the ECM installed he sent me, he then sent one baseline tune for me to upload and then record my driving. Then went silent. No communication.
From reading old threads, others have had same problem.
