Get a roll of bubble insulation at Home Depot/Lowes. Cut pieces to fit the area and you can lift the carpet from behind the seats to push them under. No need to climb under the car and it's easily removable.
Interesting, not many as I recall have mentioned this heat issue/ heat sink from the diff or mufflers into the trunk.
(The center console heat sink is another thread)
As mentioned in a thread above, a Home Depot heat barrier under the carpet may work for you.
There are more expensive automotive products that do the same (sound and heat) and typically apply with glue.
I'd ask, are you sure the heat issue from the drive train/ muffler and not from the Sun's UV rays through the back glass?
Ok, so as far as I know, the item that got fairly warm, was shielded by the spare solid yellow top which was in the trunk at the time.
On the other hand, a bottle of wine on the passenger floor mat, remained almost cool to the touch. No doubt the AC helped that. But sometimes I drive barefoot, and so it seems the floor of the passenger area remains pretty cool even in hot weather.
I used the insulating/heat kit from Exotic Vette. The kit comes complete to insulate the entire interior, and is pre cut to fit exactly.
It helps with heat, and noise reduction as well. http://www.exoticvette.com/c6-insulation-kit.html

It's the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to insulate from both road noise and under car heat. Cut it with scissors and tape it in place with the aluminum tape found near the insulation area. If you want extra protection for the carpet and from noise, buy those moving blankets from Harbor Freight.

That is a good price for a pre-cut "plug-and-play" setup. Thanks for the link. I'll be getting this soon.
