L98 Oil consumption

I have a 1987 corvette with a stock l98 the only mods I have on it is a improved air box I went to check the oil today and there wasn’t a drop on the stick when I start it up it puffs out a little smoke but it never smokes once started that leads me to believe I have wore out valve seals, also at high RPMs I start to smell oil what do you all think I should start with
