I just purchased a aftermarket pioneer avh-200ex stereo unit. I have all the wiring harness and DD dash kit. How do I wire this to the factory wiring from my 2005 Z51. Want to install myself if possible. Help please
I replaced the stereo in my wifes 2007 Z51 with GPS and rear view camera. I purchased an adapter that plugs directly into the factory Corvette wiring. The adapter came with a wiring diagram that allowed me to solder the new head unit wiring and plugs to the adapter. Every wire soldered and heat shrink used instead of tape. All the steering wheel controls still work on the stereo too. The only thing missing is the factory "dings" you hear no longer come through the stereo but instead come through an after market "dinger". Sounds a little cheesy.
The stereo still sounds fantastic and uses the factory amps in the car. All this for a back up camera! Well worth the effort still has the premium sound, added GPS, and camera plus it looks like it belongs in the car!
I highly recommend getting an adapter to the car so you can avoid cutting wires in the car.If memory serves we got ours from Crutchfield. for 2007 I needed t know if we had the standard Corvette stereo or the premium sound version as the wiring is different.
Soldering connectors is a lot of work but virtually guarantees no future connection issues. Also prevents the notorious dash rattles from butt connectors and such.
After that you need to crimp the wires from the pioneer receiver to the PAC adapter. Then you will plug in the PAC adapter into the factory plugs that are currently in your radio and then the harness that came with the Pioneer into the receiver.
Just wire it in - everything you need is in the factory harness, but without the adapter the only way it will turn on is with the engine physically running... its not pretty. I also feel like an amplified head unit may screw things up sending that hot of a signal to an amplifier, so hoping the adapters compensate for this, but not sure if they do.
I have this same adapter on order for mine. Do you think it uses the head units pre-amp outputs for speaker signal to the Bose - rather than just shooting 18 RMS wire signals into the amplifier? Just curious as I wired mine direct before and it really did not sound good compared to stock Denso head unit, really think it was due to sending such a hot signal into my Bose amp.

It will improve the sound, if you disconnect the center channel speaker at the same time you will pick up a bit more clarity as well.
