Hello everyone, I have a 2005 with about 55k on it. My differential is making a metal screeching noise. I thought it was my breaks but I put the car in the air, took both breaks and complete hub/ knuckle assembly off so it is down to just the axles. I spun it with my hand with car in neutral and I can hear a metal noise from the differential. I took each axle off one at a time and spun the differential that way and the noise is still there. Also my speedometer jumps and the noise gets louder. Anyone have any ideals? Also I can only hear the noise when I move the axles forward not reverse.

If you went to that much effort, why not just pull the differential and see if the gears are torn up? And, are you sure the noise isn't your transmission?
Yep....your diff is toast. Look for a used '07 or later as a replacement. The later diff cases are stronger than the '05's (I know...I've got one.)
Is it the case itself that is an issue on the 05 diff? Just wondering why guys don't just replace the gears only, sounds like most of you go for the whole case.

i know it’s the differential. I can pin point where the noise is. Just not sure what’s causing it.

alright i was hoping it wasn’t that bad but I’m pretty sure it’s gotta get replaced. This all happened because I did a 180 and hit a median with my passenger back tire. It broke the knuckle but I thought that was the only thing. I guess I am wrong .

The only time I've ever blown differential's is just popping the clutch on manual's, but perhaps the blunt trauma from the curb broke something odd other than teeth? Just spend the time and pull it, you'll have your answer quick enough, good luck.
