Default stuck in park

2005 C6 Z51 Automatic, so it is the micro switch on the front right side of the shifter, any way to just remove the boot ,without removing all the plastic trim , was thinking of just cutting the boot ? can you get to the micro switch that way ? this happens on & off , PITA , do the wiggle / pushy thingy to get it to work

The radio surround console is not that dificult to remove. The locking pawl iswhat has not been disengaged, and you cannot get to it to release without removing the radio surround console. The microswitch can be accessed by just cutting the boot. you may be kucky and be able to push the microswitch to get it to release the locking pawl.
PM me for PDF instructions to remove the console, and also get at the locking pawl to release it, and tie it back if you want them both.

Good Luck

thanks, it is definitely the micro switch , the metal lever gets bent out of adjustment / alignment , some just bend it back towards the shifter . but in time it will bend again, there is a replacement with a stiffer / thicker metal lever , or some just pull the switch and stiffen up the metal lever,, I tried to pull /yank the boot out, even lubed it along the edges , no go it is in there tight ,

Ok there have been a bunch of threads on this that you can search. But, I remember something in the owner's manual that said if this happens, push the shifter forward and then back to see if it will come out of park.

The micro switch will eventually fail, electrically, so that bending of the lever and pushing the shifter forward will only work for so long, then you will have no choice but to either replace the microswitch, or tie back the locking pawl.
here is the switch that will work and replace the existing OEM switch.

The radio shack micro switch is not identical, but more robust than the OEM switch, and the roller makes up for the little bump that the OEM has to assure good contact with the plastic shifter lever assembly.
The RS number is 2750017
The Amazon switch which is almost identical to the OEM is Omron SS-5GL13/SL-1W3 Switch.
Those that have used the Amazon switch had to bend the arm out a bit to assure good contact with the shifter lever.
The 2 wires have to cut off the old switch, then soldered on to the new switch. One wire on the C (common) contact, and the other on the NO (Normally Open) contact, same as the wiring of the OEM switch.
the wires on the OEM switch are short, so when they are cut off, there is little room to resolder to the new switch. Most add a piece of wire to each lead to make them longer for more room to solder the wires to the new switch. They use heat shrink wrap to cover the bare wires of the lenghtened wires.

You will most likely need to remove the radio surround console. PM me your e-mail and I'll send you the PDF.

That will not always be the case. It may work once in awhile, but never guaranteed.

going to cut all around base of the boot, some lady did this and re-attached the boot by sewing it back together with leather looking material, kinda matches the stitching on the shifter ,

It only takes 5 minutes to remove the plastic console cover. Way faster than sewing up the boot.

I just had to deal with this. I got the "put car in park" message on shutdown. You have to take the center console apart and pull the shift boot up. I sprayed some lube a few places (the spring/shaft seemed to be the main area that needed it) in the mechanism under the shift boot. After working the mechanism a few times it seemed to loosen up and started contacting the microswitch like it is supposed to.

Cheers,
Scott

ok, so hit and miss on the stuck in park thingy , figured it was definitely the micro switch in front of the shifter. looked at all the info on removing the cover to get to it , disconnecting like 5 wires , pulling the boot up , PITA ,,,,so look I'm polish , lazy ,, so I tried just pulling hard all around the boot, & it did move somewhat but the sucker is in there tight as hell, but it did pull out like a 1/2 inch. ,so pushing down on the foam under the boot and using a sharp blade cut the boot as low as I could in & around the opening ,,around the top & 1/2 way down the right side , pulled the boot out of the way to see the micro switch , bent the lever on the switch out slightly , tucked the boot back in around/ under the foam ring, all done in like 10 minutes , never know the boot was cut , if the lever bends again, just pull boot out again , easy money
