Default What causes exh drone

My base A6 has an E Force and Borla ATAK mufflers. On the hiway at any speed its quiet, no drone at all. In town its quiet.
If I put on headers and X pipe will that cause drone?
And, if I add headers and X pipe how much HP can I expect?

Thank you

I personally don't think headers has anything to do with it?

I know my car with headers, non-catted mid pipe and NPP has zero drone with the valves closed, but when the valves are open, the drone is very bad while cruising.

When my 09 M6 was stock I ran the npp open all the time with zero drone. After installing catted headers I got drone, and the car was louder. I got some clamps to hold the npp open a little bit while in the closed position and now run it like that and it's awesome

Make no mistake about it, headers can have a drastic change on exhaust tone.

No doubt it changes the tone LOL. Mine had ZERO drone with base mufflers & headers. Also zero drone with closed NPP & headers. I'm not arguing tho.. Just see a lot of people post having drone with certain mufflers.

I actually preferred the sound of base mufflers with headers to the npp mufflers but they just don't flow as much

Drone ??
Incorrect tune
oversize exhaust typically w/o catts
auto transmission imo contributes
cabin resonance

Drone is a byproduct of insufficient muffler size and or efficiency the C6 corvette has the entire exhaust confined within the car undercarriage as oppose to just been under the body this condition warrants additional resonance particularly adding multidirectional sound waves converging to multiply expanding then amplified inside the cabin this condition is not nearly as harsh outside the cabin.

That’s easily avoided by those who appreciate the original C6 muffler size and keep it regardless The purpose involve I make my own mufflers and are of very high flow and no drone though laud enough to please those who can appreciate quality performance sound.

My mufflers are exact shape and size as original 3. Inch in then split into dual perforated 2.5 inch pass across almost the entire muffler I start going in the top split and curb down then turn again to exit but with a really good straight length of perforated route to muffle sound no need for valves,

Cheap mufflers. You get what you pay for. Corsa's and OEM dual modes don't drone. If you feel the need to reinvent what works and what doesn't, enjoy the drone. Yes, LT headers with no cats makes it worse. Buy something that has been proven to work. Or buy head phones or convince yourself that "it's not really that annoying".

The corsa sport are awesome they use double front and rear wall to control dron and that works real well for them they are also very thick wall and very heavy mines weight with the over axel pipe pass side 28 lbs drivers 26 lbs my own entire header back exhaust now weights 28 lbs.

Yup, those Puppies are heavy. I blew one off at the track. With limited tools, it was easier to take the other one off than try to put the one that blew off back on. It was a loud ride home. Yes, your mufflers are a work of art!

These say Borla ATAK. They appear to be made of thick stainless steel with heavy welds. Each muffler has 2 exit pipes.
They are quiet until boost comes on then they get loud.
The hold heat too.
