New crank seal from GM is about $15. and should be changed unless you want to do the job over

I don't think auto stores loan out balancer install tools. Grab one from Ebay, or source one at a Home Depot.
You can rent the puller from an auto parts store, I went ahead and bought it from Amazon for ~$25 though.

I remove the timing chain cover to change out the crank seal. No sure if you plan on changing the timing cover gasket while you're in there.
What about the oil pump/ pick up tube? You've got relatively low miles, but you're already down there!

4-6 hours is certainly doable IMO.

You don't need to remove the timing cover or anything other than the hb itself to replace the front seal.

Dont forget to bungee cord the steering wheel so that it cannot spin. Major problem if you dont.

If you do pull the timing cover be sure to center it on the crank before torquing it down

I just changed my HB & seal when I installed my A&A supercharger last month. I did not pull the timing cover.... that would be SO MUCH more unnecessary work.

car was in jack stands in my garage. I thought it was a PITA! Hardest part was getting the rack out of the way....and get it back in place by myself.
Before starting, I made sure wheels were straight and I zip tied the steering wheel to the wiper control arm on the steering column and marked the rack and steering rod.
Definitely buy a puller and install kit from Amazon. The $70 I paid for the two saved me so much time and headaches!

But honestly, if the HB needed replacement again.... I'd consider paying someone to do it LOL. I paid $650 (including part) to have a local shop do it.
I can't imagine getting it done in 4-6 hours..... but maybe since I've done it once, second time would be easier??? Should never have to replace again though.

Good luck!
these are the ones I bought and they worked great

Spend the extra money, and go with a Powerbond PB1117SS.
The unit your looking at is just a clone of the OEM unit, and will have the same problems after a while.

The Powerbond PB1117SS use C clips front and back, and keeps the unit from wobble long term instead.

If you don't plan on Keying the PB1117SS, then use RTV in the key way to seal it off. Just seal the front of channel to the crank for a few inches, so you don't go buck wild with too much RTV to flow it into out the back side into the oil pan instead.

Just completed it last night. 2006 Auto. If you have an automatic I have a excellent idea to hold the balancer while you try to spin off the factory bolt and rescrew on your new bolt. Also, yes, Autozone had a Torque wrench to loan and the balancer remove (puller) and the "installer". If you go to autozone, theirs is labeled as the "Crystler Balancer Puller" or something along those lines. Should look like a little claw.

Took 2 people, approx 14 hrs. Getting the steering rack out and those stupid 2 PS lines was probably the worst thing I've done, and I've had to switch out 3x actuators in my mustang. Talk about PITA. If you want to talk a little at some point when you do it just msg me before hand. I might be able to help with hints or something. Most of the directions I found and videos weren't well made or they were doing a lot of other stuff for upgrades.

**I made this parts list a little while ago to prep. Everything worked out except the A/C pulley from Dayco. I think I was sent the wrong part from Amazon because it looked completed different but I will have to check and update the post next week.
