Default Scored Cam Lobes

Just curious what you guys think?
4k miles on the cam. BTR Stage 3. Ls7 lifters. BTR springs push rods etc.

Is this worth fretting about? I can’t feel any of it with a finger nail. It’s just visual. Car seems to run fine otherwise. I just tore her down for the heck of it tonight. First engine I’ve done any internal work to so I’m a little green when it comes to these kinds of things.

My Comp Cams cam looked the same after 8K miles, I left it in & it's still good for now after another 3K Mi.
I know this info doesn't help you, but wanted to share!

What kind of oil/weight were you running?

Hopefully something with a high level of zinc....

I'm running the standard 5/30 i believe. I don't think i used any specific high zinc oil when i first started.

My tuner told me to throw some ZDDP additive in with my Mobil 1. Might be worth you doing as well. Stupid question, what all do you have to take off to get this view? I have a slight fear that my cam may be wearing, but don't want to have to rip the whole motor apart to see it haha.

To get to this view you need to remove the intake manifold and fuel rail to get to the valley cover. Once your there you can take your valley cover off and get this view. You can see about 4 cam lobes total. It takes probably 1ish hours to get to this view if youre taking your time.

ZDDP is very helpful on engines that use flat tappet lifters, LS motors have roller lifters.

Perfect. Threw half a bottle in there after I got it back from the tuner. CAI and headers are my only mods, otherwise she's all stock. Thanks for the input!

Depending on how much ZDDP you have in your oil, it may impact the life span of your cats.

As soon as you run cam, I would consider using an oil with a good zddp amount in it. All racing oil have more in it, it helps for protection in modified engines. It's just bad for your CATS. Remember that the OEM lifters/ rockers weren't designed to run with such agressive lift/springs. It endures it cause it's a great design. I run Amsoil Zrod wince 3 years in my cammed LS3 and now on my Solid roller setup.

Mine looks the same. I talked to an engine builder who was doing my heads at the time and he said it was totally normal fwiw. He told me to pay more attention to how it feels versus how it looks. Felt smooth, left it in and forgot about it.
