I have a question on how to run E85. I'm honestly new to and don't really know what i need. Im assuming a fuel pump and new injectors but not sure which ones. The car right now just have long tube headers and vararam intake. I read people get ls9 injectors but not sure if I need them since stock injectors are 42lb.
You'll need to either buy or make your own flex fuel kit. I went with a Kenne Bell boost a pump, which is a highly debated topic but i'm not interested in starting it here. As far as injectors go, you can use a calculator to ballpark your needs like this one. Finally, a tune. I chose to make my own flex fuel kit because I didn't want to tap ignition for power, and I'm not running an OE fuel rail.
Do I need a flex fuel kit if im going to run e85 all the time. Should I just get fuel pump and injectors and then the tune obviously.
I don't think it's a good idea. Suppose the E content is lower than normal once, your tune will account for that, or an emergency comes up where your only option is to fill up with pump gas. You can do that with the flex fuel kit. It's really not much money so there's no real situation I'd not do it unless its a track only car. That's just me. I think I spent around $100ish to make my own kit. Maybe a little more. Don't remember.
if you just want to be able to run e85 get the dsx kit and have them turn on the tables for it.....
you can also get them to performance tune for it but you're not going to really see many gains without the supporting mods...
either way, if you want to run e it's not bad, just expect the stock fuel pump to not last... also you use roughly one third more fuel to go the same distance, so expect more frequent visits to the pump!
I wouldn't personally lock myself in to an e only tune.... good way to get yourself into an unhappy situation....
Wasting your time, since the LS3 does not have a high enough compression to justify it.
Simply, may pick up a HP or two, but going to burn 30% More E85 over petro, even when just cruising around.
Now on the other hand, if you want to bump the LS3 compression up to around 13 to 1 or higher, then will justify the added octane of the E85 since it going to be needed because pump petro (even 95 octane) will not have an high enough octane needed for the motor to prevent detonation instead.
