I'm getting ready to do my cam install on my Ls3. What are the best tools for doing the springs and remove/install balancer? Where should I get them?
please and thank you.
I just did mine. I bought the trick flow valve spring tool. it worked flawless and was very easy. just used the method where you change the springs with the piston at top instead of compressing the cylinder with air. for the balancer, i borrowed the master harmonic balancer tool kit from advance auto. you have to pay up front for it, but get the money back when you return it.
Going to go with the Comp Cams one. What about the harmonic balancer tool? Any recommendations?
You are going to need three different tools; a puller, an installer, and a way to lock the crank from spinning. I like the installers that have a ball bearing over just a couple of washers. The flywheel locking tool installs in place of the starter and will work for either auto or manual cars.
I have this puller, but have not used it yet. Used others just like it though in the past:
Colorado speed? They have a very nice HB installer that uses a threaded shaft and a bear and plate for the nut to ride on, your not pulling the HB on with your crank threads of bolt it's like 55 bucks?
I ended up borrowing an oem puller. I have an installer. I was going to buy a puller like the oem on that turns and locks on it. But after thinking about it, my truck has a 10% OD Innovators West on it and I'm putting one on my Vette. So I won't have a need for the other puller. Hoping to get this knocked out this weekend.
