Hello everyone I have a 2006 z51 and when shifting seems to be some chatter in the linkage or rear end and sometimes in first and second when going in and out of gears at slow speeds I get a bounce. I've been told I may need my rear end built soon but I was worried that could it be the torque tube in the ends on it worn out as well. What do you think and what are the symptoms of a torque tube problem
Would be my guess, hence torque tube couplers coming apart.
Or could just be that the bell housing is packed with dust, or burs on the spines of the torque tube input shaft that is causing the Pressure plate to hang up, or snot of the input shaft and Pilot bearing trashed instead.
As for rear end with the car in gear (or park), jack up just one rear tire of the car at a time (so the other rear wheel is still on the ground, choked so the car will not move) ,and take a torque wrench to the axle nut. Set the torque wrench to 100ft lbs, and if the axle spins before you hit the 100ft lbs of torque clockwise on the axle nut, then your LSD clutch packs are worn out/ need to be replace (reason to pull the diff apart, short of bearings in the diff that are worn out and need to be replaced a well).
Bottom line, sounds like it's time to pull the drive line to find the problem.
I need to do a brake job so I will do what you said with the torque wrench at that time. Am I just unlucky or do many 06 fats and that year range going to have these problems at some point and I just bought one that needed the maintenance I guess.
