Hi folks, I've always had a second gear nibble shifting into second when cold. I've found that going through the gears before driving and babying it until it warms up helps. I recently installed a MGW shifter hoping that it would cure it. Unfortunately, the nibble has now turned into a full blown grinding when cold. Once it warms up it shifts like butter but this grinding is concerning. I did the ranger method recently with fresh dot 4 fluid so only thing I can think of now is the transmission fluid. Any suggestions?

I too just installed an MGW but haven't experience any additional grinding. I did change trans fluid with GM fluid and the Lucas trans additive. It took a little while but it doesn't grind as much as it had in the past when cold. On the first shift to 2nd after starting, I let out on the clutch before going to second from 1st but after that it is fine. I may try the Redline fluid just to see if it's any better.
I understand this is a common problem. Is it a fluid issue or something internal? I’m no expert but if a synchro or something internal was bad wouldn’t it manifest itself all the time? My issue is strictly when cold first few shifts after a cold start.
My does it when the temps drop into the low 20’s. I always just shifted 1st to 3rd for the first few miles. Now I am in a warm climate and don’t have the issue anymore.
I heard great things about the amsoil torque drive, so I tried it, and it seemed slightly worse than stock. Not that stock was really bad, but I wasn't going to argue with better. So I drained it out and replaced it with royal purple synchromax, and it shifted slightly better. Because it only does it cold I would start by changing fluid.
Mine did this as well. I used Pennzoil Synchromesh. Took a few drives cycles and it went away completely. The hotter the trans oil gets, the better it shifts, too.
Yep just put mgw shifter in my z06 and seems same maybe a lil worse.actually probably not used to differece could be some of it.focusing on it whereas before was not.just bought pennzoil synchromesh and going that route.thanks CF
Grind is from the second gear synco ring/linning slipping until it warms up and grabs correctly on engagement.
Changing out trans fluid to something slicker, is going to make the problem worse and/or burn up the liners as well.

If low viscosity fluid is bad, what is/would be the best brand and type of fluid to use in a TR6060 ?? Please Advise.
I called AMSOIL and they recommended their Signature Series Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle which is what have in my trans now (2012 GS 3LT, 26k odometer) over the Torue Drive fluid. I just installed a brand new clutch MC with the updated part nbr and an MGW flat stick and my first test drive 1st to 2nd grinds severely even under 2000 rpm however all other shifts are perfect, zero grinding/scratching. MGW Tech Support suggested driving for 5-10 minutes letting the trans fluid get hot and see if the grinding stops or that it could be the 2nd gear and/or 2nd gear synchro. I'll be taking it to my mechanic next week to help diagnose the issue. This could be an $1800 repair.

Typical 2nd gear synchro issue that plagues the TR6060.

Yes, it's internal, and per a email I got from GM in 2008, after I bought my car new, there is no cure. It shouldn't get better or worse (mine didn't) over time. If yours is getting worse, perhaps you have internal wear or damage.
A lot of the time, especially when cold, I'll shift from 1st to 3rd while driving easy.
I've tried a few other brands of fluids, but the GM stuff works as good as any and better than some.
