I am looking to do Cams and Headers at the end of summer (winter project). I’m wondering what the different Cam Shaft position specs mean and how they effect your car.
Right now I’m not looking for anything crazy. I’m not taking it to the track or anything just running around the streets. All and any recommendations welcome and Thanks in advance.

There are tons of resources on the internet to read that explain the different aspects of LS camshafts and how they affect the properties of an engine. Do as much reading as possible and then define what your goals are. There a tons of cams for lots of different applications.
Also, while understanding what the numbers mean is helpful, you don't need to know well enough to be able to spec your own cam. Any of the cam manufacturers/vendors will be able to assist you in making a selection based on your goals. Just remember there are tradeoffs, so the cam that makes the most power might not be the right cam for you

This is what I’m concerned with. I don’t want to just order something and not know what I am getting into.
The problem that the C6 has with a cam change is the fact that the steering rack is mounted right in front of the harmonic balancer.
The harmonic balancer needs to be removed in order to change the camshaft, but in order to remove the harmonic balancer off the crankshaft snout, the steering rack needs to be moved out of the way ..... And moving the steering rack is no easy job ... In fact, it is a real pain in the *** of a job !
Before you and your friend start this job, you need to do an internet search to see the whole procedure and understand what you are getting into before you start this job.
If you have never done this job before (which you haven't) .... it's no 'walk in the park' !
And your going to need more parts than just the camshaft

I have done mine twice. 1st time installing supercharger on a lift, 2nd time at home in my garage doing a cam swap. The difficulty of removing the rack is definitely over rated and not that bad either way you do it. Just remove your radiator, condenser, both front tires, alternator and unbolt the abs bracket. the rest is gravy.
I will be over to your house next Saturday morning (8:00am) for a cam change ... I will also need you to re-pin my harmonic balancer once you re-install it after changing out my cam.
Do you think you can have this job done by by around 2:00 Saturday afternoon? ... I just don't have a lot of time.

I wasn't disputing the facts of everything else. lol I thought removing the rack was not as big of a pain as everyone makes it out to be. hey.... i reinstalled my balancer without repinning. got it on my 3rd try!!! its all just time consuming.
Thank you everyone. Clearly I have a TON more homework to do on this before pulling the trigger. I will definitely revisit and update as to what I decide to do.
