Default Oil priming engine

Just finishing up cam swap and I’m at the point where I just torqued HB. I’m wanting to check to make sure I have oil pressure before I proceed. I’m wanting to turn engine over with start button. Fuel pump relay removed, no plugs or coils etc. Can I do this with no steering rack installed or will I cause a code issue later on?

not sure about the rack but flood clear mode will accomplish the same thing.....

accelerator to the floor and hit start...

I agree about both ways. I’m wanting to watch the oil pressure gauge while cranking starter if possible without causing a code issue. Anyone try it this way safely without causing a code?

I think the only thing connected to power steering (electrically) might just be low ps fluid.... doing a flood clear will keep you in the cockpit...

I don't recall seeing oil pressure rise on my gauge every time I did floor clear mode. I usually do it after oil change before starting and I just don't remember seeing the gauge move at all.

You are correct. I tried several times and 0 oil pressure every time. I think to be extra safe I’m going to go ahead and prime oil pump with removable plug on drivers front side of block with 8 ounces of oil as recommended by Melling before I do the official start up.

Finally finished cam swap on Fathers Day.
Had great oil pressure at start up. I did end up
priming oil pump manually through drivers side block plug and then turning over with starter a few times.
