In dash 6 CD changer info needed!
I've been thinking about swapping it out for an OEM 6-CD unit, but info is tough slugging - I have started finding more available (my search-fu must be getting better?).
Got a couple of questions for anybody out there familiar with the unit:
1. Anybody ever have any trouble with the OEM in dash 6-CD changer? I've owned numerous changers (Ford, Jeep, Pioneer) and never had a problem but my local stereo shop says stay away from anything with a CD changer.
2. Is there a specific radio for the Bose system? I'm finding a number of OEM in dash radios with the 6 CD changer and AUX input, but no mention of Bose - I was thinking earlier I ran across "Bose specific" radios?
I've run across these part numbers but don't know if they apply to the Bose system or not:
Part #’s 25930344 25854492 20795290 158663553
3. Can the dealer unlock unit before it's installed (for testing reasons)?
Any info appreciated!
I've got an Android cell phone I bought just to use as a hard drive - it's plugged into my AUX input and has all my music on it, but I do like the convenience / sound / operation speed of the in dash CD player. I'd like to be able to burn 6 genre specific MP3 CD's & have them all in the radio, available at the push of a button.
If the 3LT has the GPS, it will have the single CD changer not the 6. I have the GPS in mine and single CD changer.
Maybe someone else can help you with your other questions.
Now I've got another question - since my car has GPS (I thought they all had it) I wonder if there's any reason why I could not add an OEM 6-CD changer?
I figured the 6-CD changer is the same physical size as the single unit - don't know if there's some type of connection on the single CD unit (GPS related) that the 6-CD unit doesn't have?
I assume you're referring to an in-dash changer?
Someone is offering me an OEM external CD changer, but from what I read, sounds like the external CD changer works only with NAV units.

Hence car should have come with a 6 disc changer in the dash, but may have had problems, and someone replaced it with single disc they found on the cheap isntead.
Hence just looking for the top button third from the right, and if it has the stack picture, it a 6 disc changer.

As for if a single and you can find a 08-13 6 disc radio with Aux input so it does have the steering wheel controls as well, is a simple plug and play swap of the units, then Tech II to clear the old marry of the radio to the other car is was in before, and to remarry to your car on the first start up so it works in your car.

I've found around 3 possibilities out there, but scared to take a chance until I can get some verification.
Previous poster said if the car came with GPS (didn't they all?) you got a single CD instead of 6-CD unit - don't know if having GPS means the 6-CD radio would not work for some reason?
I'm almost willing to bet it would be a straight swap (dealer activation aside), but I've got Bose, steering wheel controls, & GPS / Onstar in my car.
Don't know if any of those would trip me up?

I also have the Build Sheet - it shows US8 CD Radio - no idea how you decode the Build Sheet to determine which CD system came with vehicle.
EDIT: Found the decoder for build sheet - build sheet shows US8, which is single CD radio, so that's what my car came with from factory.
US9 is build code for 6-CD radio.
