Well I’m finally finished buying all my groceries list for my 2005 M6 build. But having second thoughts on my cam selection and drivability in parking lots. This is not a daily driver nor a pure track car. Just something to cruise on a Saturday night and have a little fun and take to the drag strips once and a while.
My goal is 500RWHP. So here’s what I have. Set of 823 heads that I sent of to Kaltech to have CNC(did not mill),102 fast intake,NW 102,LS3 injector with shaved tips,1 7/8 ARH headers, comp cam trunnion, BTR 7.425 push rods,LS7 lifters and now my second thought cam.
FYI
For those that are going warn me about the rest of the drive train. Purchased a 07 C6Z trans and have a pending deal on a 08 C6Z diff.
With 14.5* of overlap, it will be a little bumpy at low engine speeds. Have Pat G spec you a cam that fits what you're trying to accomplish. It doesn't cost much more to get a custom cam ground. You can get by with a lot less overlap than that and still hit your power goals. Something like the Spinmonster cam would probably get you there. I believe it's a 230/234 114+2.
It is, currently running it with same lobes as OP's cam card illustrates. Very pleased with this cam's performance, especially combined with street manners.
OP, here's personal build for '05 LS2. Baseline stock was 340 whp, last dyno run was 501 whp. Since then have added Mamo ported TB and Improved Racing's crank scraper / oil pan baffle kit. Wanted the better wet sump oil management to compliment the Melling HP/HV oil pump. Supposedly both those add a slight bump in power. The TB certainly made a difference in throttle response. Anyway, car runs great! Just one of many examples in these forums. Spin's cam has many results threads.
Throwing a little caution to the wind.....I usually measure first for my pushrods and then order them. I wouldn't just slap those 7.425" pushrods in with a big cam without checking it.....

You got katech heads, why are you getting a TSP cam? Get a cam that matches the heads from Katech. Tell the tech what you want and go with his recommendation, whether it matches what you think you need or not. I learned the hard way that the head porters generally know their ****.

Normally would of had the cam built for my purpose. But my son had Pat G send specs for building a N/A and decided at last minute to go twin turbo(07 CTSV). The is brand new and figured go with it since it was free. Pat G is the one that recommended 7.425 push rods. I’m double checking when I go to gather.
Has for with heads, I started off with TSP. I had a local reputable machine shop replace guides and valve seats. When I call TSP to have them do the CNC port. Salesman was cocky and said they didn’t want any thing with the CNC. Said it could break his 300k machine. Kinda frustrated with them I hung the phone and called Kaltech. Glad I did it was cheaper including etched “U Know” in the heads, same as license plate. Even though probably won’t see it. LOL
