SO the 2008 c6 I bought last month approaching 97K so having belts changed and radiator flushed. However it looks like on the car no trans dipstick to put fluid back in does this require a special tool? DO u usually have to go to dealer for this?
It requires a pump of some sort to feed the fluid in.
It is important when you're doing this that you ensure you can remove the filler plug prior to draining, otherwise you will be stuck with a car that you can't refill.

While that's a good practice for many things and specifically when changing the differential fluid, It really doesn't apply to the A6 transmission fluid change. The "plug" design is more like a rubber bathroom sink push-in plug than the screw-in plug on the engine oil pan. Although the access is tight, you can get your whole hand and a removal tool in that area. Since I have changed fluids far more times than most, I modified a tool to make the job easy to remove and install. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...uid-plugs.html
If you can't find a way to remove the simple plug, you have no business attempting to change fluid. BTW, I siphon out as much fluid as I can, to avoid spilling the 3+ quarts that would otherwise remain in the lower part of the pan after removal of the drain/fluid level plug.
I also cut/drilled a hole in the hatch floor for a hose that slips in the fill port, so I can fill the trans without a pump and getting under the car. Obviously, that's not for everybody or GM would have done it, but it sure makes it easy for people who change fluid more often. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-a6-fluid.html
There were many other contributors to my initial thread, that were equally helpful. Sharing stuff like this is what makes this forum so special.
I did the trans maintenance a month or so ago. It wasn't that big a deal and the links provided earlier help a great deal. My 09 only had 42k on it and the pan especially around the magnet had some fine material on it, like a sludge. I did have a problem getting that fill plug out and made a tool to help remove it. You can use a fastener removal tool that takes the plastic plugs out of panels if it's large enough. A small mirror helps with all of that. One other thing, you need to check the level with the car running at 120 degrees and then pull the level plug out until it just trickles. My car took almost 9 quarts to get to that level. Maybe because I have the Z51 option.
