Issue Getting O-Ring back on shifter boot
Also, would this button and wire affect me if i want a short throw shifter in the future?

Hence the shifter boot you have, is the one that twist locks in to the later shift ***** slots.

So either change out to the early shift boot that only has the top tension band (no silver ring) to slip into the older ***** with the O ringing helping to hold the top of boot up,

Or, will need to modifed the after market **** to allow the wires to fit tighter into a channel in the **** to clear the boot lock ring, and slot the **** both sides for the boots top rings tabs to lock into the lower end of the **** like the later shift *****.
If push comes to shove, there is a way to remove the boot's silver ring lock tab on the shifter boot you have, put the shifter boot detab silver ring on the shifter with the boot base still up so you can slip the O ring up tight under the boot on the shaft, and then install the lower boot with the center console installed.
Also, on either style oem shift *****, should have a side bolt that holds them tight to shaft in the first place. So if our **** does not have the bolt ring, not sure what is holding it tight to the shifter shaft in the first place.
