2006 C6 is throwing a CEL and the OBDII scanner says Code P0449 Evap System Vent Valve.
Is this definitely the solenoid or could it be a loose/broken gas cap? The gas cap is a cheaper and quicker fix but I don't want to waste time doing that if I'll just need to replace the solenoid anyway.
After replacing (whether it's the gas cap or solenoid) should I clear the code on an OBDII scanner or will the car automatically clear the code? I assume if I clear the code but the problem still exists it will just throw the code again, right?
Depending on miles i would change both plus purge valve. If you dismantle the vent valve you would be surprised how much dirt it has sucked up. I think check engine light will illuminate if you leave it.
I had this proble on my '05....the cure was to replace the Vent/Valve/Solenoid. The part is inexpensive & easy to replace....located in the right rear high up next to the fuel tank. You don't state what year & your profile is silent so here's the Rock Auto listing for the '05 ..... (https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...lve+/+solenoid)
You can try opening & tightening the gas cap, but more than likely it's this part....
