Thoughts on what the issue may be and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

If A6, do you have your foot on the brake pedal to activate the brake switch, and is the car in park.
Note here, if you are pressing the brake pedal hard, then push up on the shifter in part towards the dash, since it may be the micro switch lever that needs to be tweaked.
Also, make sure that the DIC is not stating Fob not found as the main problem isntead.
Bottom line, Tech II helps to check the above switches to make sure they are working correctly in the first place, Do a BPS relearn if needed, to weed out other problem like the starter relay not working, or even starter solenoid terminal bolt loose/terminal broken off, or just bad starter solenoid in the first place.
Hence a simple test if starter will not fire and turen, is to put the car in neutral with the E brake on, do the starter button push to begin with to put the car in run mode, then pull the starter relay in the engine fuse box, jump the fuse block for the starter relay and see if the car starts. If it does, then either bad relay that is easy to test, but tells you that everything down line of the relay is fine, and its just the BCM that is not sending the start command to fire the starter relay in the first place. Hence problem back up line that the BCM is checking those sensor, before it will send the start command to fire the starter relay.
