Default First time corvette owner from STL

I live in St. Louis, mo and just bought my first vette @ 31yrs old. Always loved how vettes look and sound and finally pulled the trigger. Was originally shopping for a c5 z06, but ended up buying a base 2005 c6 z51. Hoping I can find someone with a rear diff conversion bracket so I can bolt up a c5 z06 rear diff. Afraid to add any power to the stock rear diff.

About the car:
-2005 base C6 6spd z51 package w/ black exterior & gray inteior-Alpine double din touch screen headunit. Stock speakers and added small downfiring subwoofer-front, side, and read aero kit
-chrome 5 spoke C7 stingray wheels. I believe off a 2014
-Billy Boat X mid pipe-SLP Loudmouth axle back-LED lights all around including aftermarket tsils-tinted windows
-weathertech mats throughout
Love how the car sounds from the outside, but the SLP's have terrible drone inside the cabin! Going to try to sound deaden the car to hopefully greatly reduced it

Welcome to the forum! I lived in the STL area for 24 years before I retired and moved to Jefferson City.

Great way to kill drone would be to find a 2008 NPP exhaust and hook it up with an NPP In a Box kit. Gives you loud exhaust when you want, and OEM stock exhaust quiet at the push of a button. My Centennial GS vert had BB PRT's on it when I bought it, which wore on me on long trips. I swapped to NPPs and love the flexibility.

Welcome to the forum. Born and raised in St.Louis 44 years before you. lol. Had a new 2005 for many years which ended up at 500hp. You don't need a different rear end unless you plan to seriously increase the HP and use slicks at the track. Swap to an NPP exhaust. It is the best of both worlds. Drive safe or the SLPD will show you the way.

Default Welcome!

You are lucky to have a C6 at such a young age! I had to raise my kids before I could buy my 08 C6M...

My car came with a GCA exhaust (Genuine Corvette Accessory) which was basically rebadged Borla Stinger axle back system.... droned like crazy at 70 mph in 6th gear (1500) rpm down the interstate. Drove me CRAZY!

Anyways, I did lots of research and bought a Corsa Sport axle back system.... it has ZERO drone, NONE!

The NPP System is ok too but know that if you leave the flaps open for more power it WILL drone.... only when the flaps are closed will you have no drone.

I like my exhaust because it’s completely unrestricted ALL the time... and sounds absolutely awesome. Quiet below 2500 rpm and comes to life above 2500.... very cool.

Its all a matter of choice; exhaust sound is very subjective so I’d recommend you listen to some you tube videos....

I do know for certain that the Corsa has NO DRONE... been awesome on trips.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with!

Thanks, after doing some reading most people agree with you. I'll either be going to corsa sports or just dealing with the drone. Found an 07 diff with 4.10 gears I'm going to buy off a member here to get rid of the weak 05 diff and a nice little gear upgrade at the same time

You may need a different tail housing. Check with RPM Transmissions in Indiana. I had one of their '05 4:10 rear ends.

Ended up buying the rear extension from Zip....$1k just for that and gaskets/bolts 😟. I did find a 2006 non-z51 t-56 and rear diff for $2k from a scrapyard, but decided on buying the extension plus a diff with 4.10's for same price. Unfortunately they only wanted to sell the transmission and diff as a package

Consider this, when you install that 4.10 diff you’ll be moving the drone zone to a lower speed.. so you may be OK in that regard. Not sure what your rpm will be at 70 mph with the 4.10’s but I’d bet you may be at least at 1700 rpm which may put you in a slightly higher rpm range above the drone zone!

you would have been better off with a C5 ZO6, then a 2005 C6, the 05 is an enigma, rushed into production, Differential is weak, stand alone computer system ECM's almost impossible to find, shares interior parts with the C5. 24 point reluctor wheel. They rushed the C6 into production should have waited a year at least.

The rear diff didn't concern me bc I had planned to swap it anyway, didn't know of the electrical issues until after I bought it. Looks like most are actually connection issues rather then the actual ECM. I haven't heard anything about reluctor wheels, not even sure what that is tbh? Personally I like the exterior and slight interior changes in 05 better then c5z's, aswell as the targa top. Not planning to go crazy with it or autocross, just basic bolt ons. Hoping for 400ish whp with ported fast 102, headers, LPE intake before the 4.10s
