I am doing a cam upgrade and all the goodies. My OEM Balancer has the little seal on the inside of the balancer. I am replacing with Powerbond and would like to know if that seal is needed on the new balancer ? I think I read along time ago to not use that seal.

if your crank and balancer are keyed you don't need it.
think its to help prevent the factory balancer from spinning on the crank (no key)
An OEM LS3 Crank and Balancer are NOT keyed. Powerbond balancer has a key way that will be filled carefully with sealant when installing and I am pinning the balancer. Don’t need a think, need a definitive answer. Thanks. Have a call in to Dayco. Dayco returned my call this AM and said to reuse the friction washer.

Reason: Addition
Good idea to replace the seal for the balancer that is on the timing cover.
Yes, I know that and I am doing that also. Found a lobe on the OEM cam with rough spot on the aperture. Replacing lifters with LS7 performance and new GM lifter trays. Thanks.
