My 6.8 liter, ProCharged, 800 hp LS looks like it may need a new clutch. When I built the engine 3 years ago, knowing I don’t do burnouts, hard shifts or racing, I installed a stock Z06 clutch.
It is possibly slipping, so I am planning on a replacement.
I would appreciate input and suggestions on any experience with aftermarket clutches, good and bad.
This is a street driven car, so the clutch must have good street manners. Thanks.
ive heard good things about the mcleod rxt.... just put a monster twin in my z06 but no driving hours on it... pulling it in and out of the garage it feels like a stock unit....
Lot of ways to go, but since this is for street use, make sure that you are able to slip the clip, hence organic, and not one that will chatter/want to lock up without slipping instead.
As for flywheel, two way to go.
Lightened will pick up more HP, but easy to stall the motor on clutch engagement.
Myself, used to be a fan of the twin organic Dyad's with increased tension pressure plate and lightened flywheels, but since they got questionable on standing behind their clutch kits, better ways to go. Also, since your over the power limits of the LS9 clutch, that one is out too.
My car is "only" 520 hp/tq to the wheels but I am using a Monster LT1-S twin disc. Very similar to stock but it is rated to hold 700 hp/tq. It is actually a C7 clutch with a flywheel for the C6
For your power level, I would recommend the Monster LT1-S Triple disc. Its rated to 1150 hp/tq.
