So this has happened a few times, which is frustrating. The car won't start (battery is new). If I disconnect the battery and let it sit overnight and reconnect, it will start. Anybody have any ideas what the underlying issue might be? Appreciate any feedback.
What are your actions and the cars reactions or lack there of with each step. Noting sounds is especially helpful.
engine light is on. All dash lights are on and external lights are working. When push to start nothing happens...very slight clicking sound for a split second.
This may not be your issue, but yesterday I experienced this: Car would not turn over. Gave a "No Fobs Detected" message. Tried putting the fob in the glove box slot, which did not help. After a while I checked the owner's manual in the "Starting the Engine" section. It said that the USB port must not be plugged in to anything and charging before starting the engine. In my case, I did connect my phone to the USB cable before starting, so I unplugged it, and the car started right away.
A 2005 is the only year of the C6 platform that has a Steering column lock module installed. Your symptoms point directly to the module starting to fail. The reason this is so, is that once you disconnect the battery, it temporarily resets the circuit, and the car will start.
It took forever, but GM has a fix that will never give you another problem. Too bad they didn't do this fix while the car was under warranty, so therefore it will cost about $400.00 to get it done. Not having to worry about this problem going forward is worth way more than that money IMO.
Here is the GM technical service bulletin on it. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-from-gm.html

This week my 05 had the column lock solenoid stick somewhere between locked and unlocked. The car would not start nor was the Column Lock error message displayed. Removing the battery ground for a few seconds corrected the issue. As soon as I reconnected the cable I heard the solenoid buzz to it's locked position. I have resisted installing the bypass but it may be about time. Chevrolet costs which includes swapping the notched column plate is $400.

I recently had this done for $238. I ordered the 2 parts for $13. At times the hardest thing is removing the steering wheel and parts.
