What is the best way to describe a problem with the Torque Tube. Is it a vibration at acceleration, a grinding noise that goes away, or both? Vette is 2006 coupe auto, base
Will this happen while just driving down the road? Any clunking noise while putting it in gear?
Been talking to a gentlemen having a problem with his vette, which I am interested in buying. He took it to Dealer, they said trans and diff are fine, but I have no idea if they even looked at the torque tube. Any ideas?

The most common problem is one of the bearing going bad on the drive shaft 'On the tranny end' it will cause a rattle noise.I have a 2008 auto and i have had the rattle noise for over a year which is very nosably when idling in park with your door open at the driver side rear wheel it does not have a vibration at all.I took it to a place last month and the tech lifted it while running and there is a cover you can pop on the bell housing on the torque tube on the trans end and you can hear that bearing rattling like hell.I got a new OEM complete drive shaft from Rock Auto, but my problem is to find a shop that can install it....It is NOT an easy task to remove the complete drive train....I called the dealer that i brought it from new and they want $1400.00 labor but i will never take it to a dealer...Good Luck
On the A6 trans, may be a simple as the rear plate bolts (9 and 11) being loose from the torque converter..
So on the A6 at the back of torque tube, there is an access cover that you can remove to look up into, and even get a wrench into to make sure that the bolts are still tight.
From 68 forward, that is the torque tube parts that would require the tube to be removed (diff/trans/rear cradle dropped out as well) , and the parts pulled to replace any of them (the three main bearings, and the two flex couplers).
Mine sounded like a dry bearing coming from the rear of the car at all times while the car was running. The only person that gets to touch my Corvette besides me charged me $900 to rebuild it. $300 for parts and $600 for labor. I think that I got a good deal on this repair. Stealership wanted $2600 to install a new one and that was just a quote as long as they didn't find anything else that needed repair.
My sounds like marbles in a can and you can even hear it in the engine bay with hood open when idling,so far after driving it for over a year nothing has blown up..I leaning to what Dano523 posted because my trans had to be dropped to get the two gas tanks out to replace the fuel pump for the recall... and it was done at the dealer by a young kid which took four days!! and when i picked it up it sounded like **** and he had to put it back on the lift and tighten all the exhaust that he forgot to check...Anyway the noise i have now started not long after i got it back.
