Default Quickjack vs. Wheel cribs

I'm looking for the best overall option for maintenance work. It seems like there are two top options: QuickJack or RaceRamps Wheel cribs.

The quickjack is more expensive and takes up more room and requires more maintenance BUT you can do more with it - including tire rotations, brake jobs, anything requiring tire removal.

The wheel cribs are less expensive, take up less room and don't require any maintenance but the one downside I see to them is that, for obvious reasons, if you want to do a brake job or remove the tires for any reason...you can't use these. Given the $800 or so price difference between the two is it worth getting the wheel cribs instead and in the situations when I need to do a brake job or tire rotation I will just have to use a jack and other options? Or is the quickjack worth the extra money even though it takes up more room and requires more maintenance?

Anyone used both? The one thing that is holding me back from the wheel cribs is just that I can't remove the tires with them and would therefore have to use another option at that point.

I love my QuickJacks. My 07 is up on them right now, locked and set up for a headlight install, which I'll probly finish tomorrow. I have two sets of wheels/tires, a Summer set and an All-season set. Gotta be able to change wheels myself. I used the QuickJacks for my Axle-back upgrade, for an Auto Trans Fluid replacement, for a Brake Fluid Flush, and last week when I replaced OEM bars with GM Z51 Anti-sway Bars. Yes, they are quite heavy to move around (I'm 65) and it takes a few minutes to set them up. But I would not do the Corvette work myself without them.

I had a QuickJack too and it was awesome. I just wanted to hear from someone who may have used wheel cribs to see if they are worth spending $800 less.

No wheel cribs, but do have the 72" gradual incline race ramps with removable drive up section. Had them for several months prior to pulling the trigger on QuickJack. Have not used Race Ramps since QJ purchase. QJ is hard to beat for what it does.

I had a set that was gifted to me, but ultimately they were nothing special. They're a combination of a jackstand and a ramp, but they don't have the ease-of-use of ramps and they don't allow you to do any wheel/brake work. I also ended up gifting them to a friend, because they didn't serve any purpose for me that I felt warranted having both jackstands and the blocks. I'd much rather have a set like Vol mentioned with drive-up sections that can be removed, because then I don't have to go around jacking it up.

Also, remember that the QJ can be stored under the car and they also have wall mounts that you can use to hang them out of the way.

I have no experience with race ramps but I picked up quickjack on sale from Home Depot during Black Friday. I bought the 7000 series which is overkill for the c6 but I can use for my other vehicles. So far I have done an oil change and upgraded my sway bars and end links. I had enough room to move around under the car.

I have a Quickjack 5000, maybe over kill also but it was the model on discount at Costco. I had enough room to get a transmission jack under the car, remove my driveline and install a new clutch.

Personally I would not want to fool around with using a standard jack to lift the vehicle high enough to put the Wheel Cribs under the tires, and then drop the vehicle on the Wheel Cribs. In the time it took to do that, I would have the Corvette up to full height on the QuickJack and all four tires dismounted, in addition to other work accomplished such as an oil change.

FWIW, I've had my QuickJack going on six years now with zero maintenance needed. When I'm not using the QuickJack, I stand them up on end and lean against my workbench, taking up very little floor space.

Good luck with your decision.

I purchased a Kwik Lift several years ago. I currently have it set up on my back patio and park my Vette on it. I used to have it in the garage and just parked right on top of it as well. So although it took up space, It was a reserved parking space that I was able to use for all of the vehicles we owned.
I think it was one of the best investments I have made for working on the cars.

SPEED SAFE, NICK

I got a quickjack when I got my C6...I saw the trouble that people went to just to jack the thing up and it seemed like an obvious choice. I'm glad I got one -- it made doing tire rotations, oil changes, exhaust work, etc. a whole lot easier. I got the 5000 which is the perfect size for the car.

I have the 5000TLX and for my ceiling height is all I can do. Would love to do Maxx Jacks but my ceiling won't let me.

The do not take up that much space in storage, they have hooks they hang on and are up tight against the wall. They are to the right of the Phone booth in this picture.
