I'm just weighingmy options for $ERIOUSLY LIGHT wheels for my ZR1s...and by seriously light I mean less than 20 lbs all the way around. I did some searching and all I really found was a bunch of sales threads but nothing really discussing the subject of light wheels. Let's talk about that for a minute CF!
What I've found so far leads me to either carbon fiber or forged magnesium (Litespeed Racing for example) for sub 20 lb wheels. What else is out there?
I'm looking for 19s all around in roughly stock width but ya'll feel free to talk about other sizes so long as long as we stick to $SERIOUSLY LIGHT wheels only!
I'd be looking more at tire weight, since it affects rotational forces far more than wheel weight. Just the width alone can have more effect than several pounds of wheel weight.
A large chunk of wheel weight can easily be in the hub and spokes, whereas the tire weight is mostly on the tread. A 1" width difference on a 19" tire is nearly 4 pounds.
However, if you're wanting tires for road or oval track racing, width over rules weight.

Oh yeah, that's a great point and I'm certainly considering the tires as well. They'll be 325/30/19 in back and stock size up front which is 285/30/19. The rears (Cup 2 TC) will weigh 30 lbs each which is the lightest I've found in this size.
There are lots of ways to reduce weight for far less $$$$ than wheels. Some would never be noticed and others obvious. Little things add up quickly. I removed the plastic door handles, cigar lighter, ash tray, GM chicklets, and lots of other minor items that are easy to re-install if needed. I got my OEM 3120# down to under 2900#, even after adding a rollbar and all of it was returnable to stock weight/appearance.
The lightest wheels we have in 19x10 / 19x12 is the Forgeline GS1R. https://forgeline.com/wheel/gs1r
19x10 - 19.5lbs each
19x12 - 21lbs each
comes with 3 years track warranty
From the small amount of inquiries I’ve made with wheel vendors, they almost seem hesitant to even try to give you weights. People don’t realize how much of a benefit a lighter wheel is when it comes to racing.
I agree. So far I've had one vendor make one wheel suggestion and another said to call them. I just wanna know who's got the lightest wheels in my size and how light are they? ...And I don't want to call around to 10 different places wasting time but if that's what I gotta do then I will. I'll be updating this thread with my findings. It's gonna save someone a lot of trouble somewhere down the line.
Finspeed and Forgeline don't seem to on their websites. BBS does list some weights but I wasn't getting too far browsing on my phone. I haven't contacted any of those three directly but I have contacted Litespeed Racing and I'm getting some pretty exciting numbers out of them. Standby...
Litespeed Racing RS5 or VS10 in 19" weighs 15.6 front and 17 lbs rear. I was waiting to hear back on the width of those wheels before reporting here but I haven't gotten a response back from Patrick yet.
I'm not gonna mention the price on the wheels since they aren't a sponsor here but I will say they seem like a real bargain to me.
The weights he gave me are 15.6 lb for a 19x10 and 17 lb for a 19x12 in their RS5 and VS10. The GT7 (my favorite I think) runs only about 1 lb heavier.
