On my manual transmission, the drain plug is an oil temperature sensor. Does anybody know how to read or get this temperature? Would it be possible to disconnect the sensor without getting errors and reconnect to an ordinary aftermarket temp gauge?
GM would not have gone to the expense of putting an oil temp sensor in the manual transmission in place of an ordinary drain plug if something wasn't reading the temperature. I'll probably disconnect it and try it out myself but I'd rather get insight from the community beforehand.
It doesn't give temp, at least not that you can read through the OBD II. . it's a threshold switch that turns on a light when it gets higher than a certain set point. I don't remember that set point. The diff has a working temperature sensor that you can read. Looking at torque app the PID for that is 221603 equation (A-40)*1.3333333333

So, I googled "(A-40)*1.3333333333" and 221603. I see I have a lot to learn.
But that's half the fun of owning an older 'vett**. The information for anything is out there. I thank you for the input.
** I have an '05 and it is at the edge (for me least) of my abilities. Awesome car for a DIYer.
