Default Trans, gebo or diff?

Gotta a bit of an issue developing. Need ideas for how to pinpoint the bad part.

Auto 07 c6, if I'm in gear and let off gas then back into it I get a solid jerk and sometimes a clunk. Even just putting it in gear foot on brake I get a clunk.

I'm an leaning towards the gebos in the torque tube but I'd hate to tear it down and see they are fine.
it also pulls to the right if I smash the gas, but from the rear.
The diff was empty when I got the car from an axle seal leak, and trans fluid was jet black.
Will the cv axles click when they are shot like a fwd? I know one of the boots shot all its load a while back, but i cant imagine them getting so loose they cause such a noticeable clunk.
No noise in a neutral rev, or under load for that matter.
Any diag I can do to determine the culprit?

im no diff expert, but if it pulls and the diff was empty, i'm going to start there....

the torque tube really isn't going to "clunk" unless the giubos are completely shot out....

good luck!

Thanks drew,

I think I could check diff play by putting it in park and lifting one side, then check just the one wheel movement range.

If I have to drop the whole assembly to do any these repairs I think I'll just replace it all anyways.

Auto torque tube has a back bottom access plate that you can remove to gain access to the plate to torque converter to see if the bolts are loose.

Also room to reach up and spin the torque tube shaft to see if the TT couplings are going out as well.

Awsome thanks! The couplings in the shaft look like a nightmare on the ground. Well pulling any of this rear trans, diff, tube assembly looks like full suck.

I just hit the gas moderately turning left, and it, I dunno, felt like it had a left rear flat? like the rear end floated traction on one tire only. Its really odd, felt like an open diff. Not to mention the rear end pulls to one side when I mat it.

Sorry enough speculation, I'll take a look and come back when I know what's up.

doesn't the torque tube spin in Neutral also?

In a manual, you can usually pretty easily narrow it down using the clutch in/out, and the transmission in/out of gear.

Does it though? I think its direct drive off the crank since the converter is in the back. which is fine cause i could use the resistance to check play that way, and isolate trans problem.

Funny thing, one of our transit vans at work blew the guibo out yesterday, the vibration at slow speed was ungodly. so got me thinking if that was blown on the vette it should throw the balance of the shaft off too and id get a similar vibration.

Well the radiator exploded, so that was clearly the problem . was quite an easy swap, even upgraded to all aluminum 2 core for less than oem.

I put a half quart extra trans fluid in and that helped the slow shift response as well as the clunk, helped quite a bit at that. Maybe it wasn't as level as I thought it was the last time I filled it.

If I lift the rear, in park and hold one tire I get about 1-1.5" play on the other tire. Seems about normal. Cv axles seem tight as well.
