Default Passenger Door Lock Issue on a 2007

I've had an intermittent problem with the passenger door lock on my 2007 since I got it. There are times when the exterior passenger door lock will not open the door. Previously, I was able to open it with the inside button. I learned about the dirty contacts issue in the exterior door handle, so I took that apart and cleaned it a few days ago. The contacts weren't nearly as dirty as I'd seen in some of the videos I watched to see how it was done. Everything had been working fine until today. While I was at the tire shop getting new tires, I tried to open the door from both the outside and from the inside with the button without response. I had to resort to the emergency handle to open the door. After the tires were installed I tried the door again from the outside and it worked fine.

Any suggestions on what to look for or where the problem might be?

I had the issue, and changing the door latch fixed mine. Took 5 minutes.

its the door latch assembly which really makes no sense to me but thats what it is, the reason i say that is because the car door is controlled electronically you would think it was a fuse or something electrical but using the emergency lever it opens but the part you need is the part that still opens but manually follow me??? lol

You do not mention any problems with the driver's door, so will assume that it is passenger door specific. The problem sounds isolated to the door latch assembly contained in the B-Pillar, as you mention inconsistent results with both the door mounted internal & external controls, so that would eliminate those as the problem. The door function is controlled by the BCM module with the door controls sending a signal to the BCM to open the door. Attached is a document I pulled off the forum provided by another member that also includes the part number you would need to replace.

Good luck and report back your findings & resulting fix.

So far no problems with the driver's door. Thank you for posting the document. It appears, however, that GM has discontinued the part that needs to be replaced for the passenger side (they still apparently make the driver's side.) The parts listed in the document are for the non keyless entry and those are still being made as well. The part numbers for the remote lock, keyless entry locks (for anyone looking) are 88956749 (Right side, discontinued) and 88956759 (Left side.) On further research, there are still some sites with the part available.

The part seems to be available from Tasca. I have found them to be price competitive. See link below:

Thank you for the link.

I went out this morning after reading the suggestions and it took two or three tries to get the door to open. With the door open, I manually pushed the locking mechanism closed and then used the exterior handle to try to open it. I could hear the solenoid operating on each push but it took two or three tries to get the lock mechanism to unlock. I spent about 10 minutes with a spray form of SuperLube, lubing the lock mechanism and was able to finally get it to work each time I tried opening the door. I'll give it a few days to see if this helps and then see if I need to order the locking mechanism.
