Recently purchased an '06 coupe M6 with 34k miles. One owner and car is spotless, but not sure how it was driven prior. Every day driving is fine, but I've noticed what I call a performance lag when I punch the throttle. Regardless of mph, when at approx 2,000 rpm in any gear (more noticeable in 4th & 5th), a punch to full throttle produces an immediate increase in rpm's. However, there is not a similar immediate increase in power at the rear wheels. After a second or so, the rpm's drop and I then feel the expected kick in the pants of acceleration and speed advances smoothly. It's almost as if the clutch slips before fully engaging. I would probably describe it like when you step on the gas in the family sedan, and the automatic downshifts but doesn't really accelerate immediately.
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
I don't know what else it could possibly be besides a slipping clutch. Everything else in the driveline is positively connected through gears, splines, etc.
Sounds like clutch. Put it in 5th or 6th gear at low speed and give the car full throttle. If the RPMs climb without increasing in speed, it's the clutch.
Thanks. I just left for the weekend and won't be able to try your suggestion until Monday. Not thrilled that the clutch may be shot in only 34,000 miles.

/\ THIS! My 08 M6 is immediate with that 'neck snap' torque with WOT acceleration at 2k rpms. Definitely sounds like slipping clutch to me as well.
Half throttle 'punch' in 5th or 6th at 1,000 RPM results in same scenario. Tach almost instantly jumps to 2,500-3,000 with noticeable 'seat feel' or increase in MPH.
What's puzzling is that if I wind through the gears with aggressive shifts at 4,000+ RPM, there is no noticeable slippage. My limited understanding of the relationship between RPMs, flywheel, clutch plates, pressure plates, etc. has me baffled. I get that the "clutch" may need to be replaced, but is it possible that there may be an adjustment or minor repair possible? I even changed the clutch fluid (Ranger method) which didn't help. Then again, that seem to focus on clutch pedal issues rather than slippage in the drivetrain.
I am searching for a reputable shop nearby that can test drive it for their opinion. Another option is Kerbeck (now Ciocca) which is 45 minutes away, but I'm hesitant to see their quote.
