I sent my LS3 intake to GPI for their rod mod. I never understood why there was a cover on these intakes from the factory. Assuming it is to keep down intake noise, but it also would tend to keep heat in too. Anybody removed theirs? Made more noise?
I kinda like engine noises. I did the same to mine as you're doing. Didn't notice anything because I did cam, ported and milled heads, intake porting, headers, exhaust all at the same time. It made all kinds of glorious noises after all that.
Say, OP you are writing about the intake manifold cover.
As I recall both the LS2 & LS3 have valve cover/ coil pack plastic shields.
An entire Intake cover may be aftermarket or accessory.
For my LS2, yes I operate without the plastic valve cover panels and any increased noise is negligible.
(I removed for the same reason, heat retention)
I have seen no long-term issues and have operated w/o covers for a decade.
Removed mine ages ago, didnt notice any change in sound... but then I also have longtubes, xpipe etc. Definitely have less heat soak without it though. I think its there to quiet valve train noise, but meh.
