Default No Crank No Start

1st time poster
I am obviously a newbie here ,Yesterday I purchased a 2005 convertible
Bought from a friend who had not driven the car in 4 years (he has owned for 12years)
I took over a new battery and installed in the car also a new battery in the fob.
the drivers door would not open from the outside, hit the start button dash went dead and no start
Tried 4 or 5 times and eventually started
Car ran well , I pushed in the clutch and shut off the car in reverse.
The dash said to put the car in reverse
I went back today to bring the car home, Dash lights up No crank No start
i am reasonably competent but the internet is confusing me more than helping
Where to begin ?
Any and all advise is greatly appreciated
Thank you in advance
from Vancouver Canada

2005 is known to have a column lock issue it will not unlock the steering sometimes.

steering unlock signal is needed so the BCM will give the command to start the engine ,otherwise it will be considered unsafe to drive the car with a locked steering which may cause an accident.

column lock bypass will solve the problem, it will keep the steering unlocked

Thank you for the response
I will look at it when I go home
Will the steering be physically locked or just a bad signal telling the bcm that it is locked ?

Update
Steering is unlocked
Unplugged both reverse sensors on the transmission, Car started
Replaced both sensors with new ac delco units , plugged them in No Crank No Start.
Dash still shows a locked symbol and displays shift to reverse.
Replaced both exterior door switches as they where inconsistent.
They now work as they should
I have to disconnect the battery as the car will not completely shut down
